With the 2007 “Holiday Season” in full swing, I would like to start off my December 2007 Newsletter, by wishing you all a Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!

As this is my first round of the Holidays while working, I will say that I definitely was missing a part of what I had always assumed to be “automatic”, in relation to what I thought of when I thought of Christmas, and that was time off!  In the past, always when I thought of Christmas, the “Holiday Break” was included in my memories, and being this year I was working, it was definitely a different kind of Christmas.

This month I spent a majority of my time traveling for work to Texas, therefore, I did not have much time to sit back and enjoy my time.  Instead, I felt that I had to maximize every opportunity and utilize my time effectively, so that I would be able to have everything ready for Christmas – and this was the truth, as I completed my “Christmas Shopping” roughly at 3:30 pm on Christmas Eve, with just enough time to head home from the stores, shower, and off to Grandma’s for the traditional Christmas Eve Dinner.  In addition to wanting to be prepared for Christmas, I wanted to be able to enjoy the most important part of the season – spending time with family and friends.

Amongst all that I had going on with work and getting ready for Christmas, I was able to attend the National Kidney Foundation of the Alleghenies “Zoo Lights” Walk, held at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.  At the event, I had a great time alongside Miss Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen, Elena LaQuatra, and Kelsey Pitini, Miss Jewel of the West.  We helped with the Registration of the attendees and directing them where to go as they entered the Zoo.  We also then enjoyed walking through the Zoo ourselves, visiting with the Polar Bears and Sea Otters, and then heading to the PPG Aquarium to see all of the sea life, including the Penguins, as they zipped back and forth, through their tank!  Even with the below freezing temperatures, we had a great time, and this an event that I would like to attend in the future, since it was such a nice time.

Once again, I hope all of you have a blessed Holiday Season and I look forward to the continuation of my year as Miss Three Rivers, in 2008!

Happy Holidays,

Jessica Megliss
